In Harris County, Democrat Letitia Plummer won the election for county judge on November 3, 2026. She defeated Republican Orlando Sanchez to become the first Black woman and the first Muslim elected to the position.
Unofficial results from KPRC 2 show Plummer received 813,708 votes, or 61% of the total. Sanchez collected 521,501 votes, or 39%. He conceded the race on Tuesday evening, confirming Plummer's status as the next leader of Texas' most populous county.
Plummer will succeed Lina Hidalgo, who served eight years as county judge before deciding not to run for a third term. Plummer previously served on the Houston City Council, where she was first elected in 2019. Her background includes work as a dentist and advocacy for affordable housing, public safety, and community development.
To secure the Democratic nomination, Plummer defeated former Houston Mayor Annise Parker in a close runoff. Her victory marks the first time since 1958 that a Democrat has succeeded another Democrat as Harris County judge.
Her campaign focused on improving county services and strengthening infrastructure for residents.
