American Legion Veterans Memorial Post 432 at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in Louisiana reports a zero percent recidivism rate among its members. The organization states that no one who has belonged to the post has returned to prison.
The post is the first prison-based American Legion unit in the state. It operates inside the Elayn Hunt facility, a medium-security prison for women. The program focuses on discipline and mentorship to help incarcerated veterans rebuild their lives.
Supporters of the initiative describe it as a method for breaking cycles of incarceration. The peer-led structure allows veterans to guide one another through rehabilitation and purpose.
In a separate segment of the broadcast, researchers from the National Library of Medicine highlighted findings on art therapy. The data indicates that drawing and painting can stimulate memories in patients suffering from dementia and other neurological diseases.
Doctors and caregivers are using these artistic methods to help individuals with memory loss stay calm and engaged. The activity provides a means of communication for those who may struggle with verbal expression.
A 2025 survey cited in the report found that one in six women missed or possibly missed a routine cancer screening in the past year. In response, a South Carolina salon is partnering with a statewide health initiative to discuss these screenings with clients during appointments.
