The Milwaukee Brewers scored eight runs with two outs in a single inning on Monday night, a feat never before accomplished in a World Series game. The offensive outburst powered a 10-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays, giving Milwaukee a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

The rally began in the bottom of the fourth inning after the Brewers established a 2-0 lead in the third. Christian Yelich and William Contreras hit consecutive RBI singles on one-out pitches to open the third. The margin widened quickly as the Brewers capitalized on a defensive miscue and a series of hits against Tampa Bay starter Freddy Peralta and relievers Cam Booser and Cole Sulser.

Brice Turang initiated the historic run with a two-run single off a 106 mph one-hopper that bounced past shortstop Taylor Walls. The play was the second of seven consecutive two-out hits by Milwaukee batters. Garrett Mitchell and Cooper Pratt followed with RBI hits, extending the lead to 7-0. Jackson Chourio finished the inning with two hits, part of his four-hit performance for the game. The Brewers scored on 17 pitches to open a 10-run advantage.

Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash acknowledged the steep deficit but maintained that the team remains in the series. “It’s kind of that chip and a chair mentality,” Cash said. “We’ve got a seat at the table. We’ve got to do something with the chip. Obviously the only thing we can do is win tomorrow.” Griffin Jax, who will start Game 4 on Tuesday, stated that the team intends to rest and return ready to compete.

Historical data indicates the difficulty of recovering from such a hole. Among 25 teams that have trailed 3-0 in the World Series, 21 were swept and four lost in five games. In any best-of-seven postseason matchup, only the Boston Red Sox against the New York Yankees in the 2004 American League Championship Series have overcome a 3-0 deficit. The previous World Series record for runs scored with two outs was seven, set by Boston in 2007 and matched by San Francisco in 2010.

Defensive errors contributed to the Brewers' scoring. In the fifth inning, a forceout at second base was reversed after a review, loading the bases for Chourio and Yelich. Later, Caminero chose to throw to second rather than first on a grounder from Turang, a decision he explained was due to the runner's speed. Walls described the missed stop on Turang's hit as the turning point of the game, noting that the ball glanced off his glove and into short center field.
