Moviegoers in Milwaukee have two new options opening on Thursday, October 30. The releases include a drama about poodle breeding and a documentary following elite ski mountaineers.
The drama, titled Breeder, stars Dot-Marie Jones as Patti, a champion poodle breeder. She offers to fund honey bee research for Russell, a young man played by Daniel Doheny. Russell travels to her farm and learns he must breed with one of her daughters to receive the money. His chosen partner, Ainsley, suggests they take the cash and flee. Russell eventually suspects he is not the first victim of Patti's eugenics scheme.
Critics noted Jones delivered a strong performance. Doheny balanced naivete and genius to counter his adversary. Writer-director Alex Goyette used comedy to lighten the tone while maintaining visual beauty. The film is described as flawed but fascinating.
The second release is Everest: The Other Side, a documentary about the death of ski mountaineers Jim Morrison and Hilarey Nelson. The pair planned to ski Mount Everest's North Face after summiting it. Directors Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin filmed the expedition. A terrible death occurs twenty minutes into the runtime.
Reviewers called the documentary astounding, noting it covers love, loss, and thrill. Some viewers may find it hard-hearted to continue after the early death, but the film proceeds with the story of the expedition.
Both films are currently scheduled for screening in Milwaukee theaters on October 30, 2026.
