Nick Mohammed’s career trajectory has shifted sharply in the last twelve months. He is moving from the high-pressure environment of live television to the disciplined structure of a West End production. This transition marks a distinct change in his professional focus, moving away from the unpredictability of reality competition to the fixed scripts of theater.
The shift began with his participation in the first season of The Celebrity Traitors. The show aired in 2025 and captured an average audience of 11.1 million viewers. This figure made it the most-watched live television event of that year in the United Kingdom. Mohammed’s performance on the show elevated his public profile beyond his established work in film and television.
His rise in popularity followed a steady accumulation of roles over two decades. He developed the character of Mr. Swallow while studying for a PhD in seismology at the University of Cambridge. He performed the role at the Edinburgh Fringe festival before expanding it into a full-hour live show. He later found wider recognition through his role as Nate Shelley in Ted Lasso. That series aired on Apple TV+ starting in 2020 and earned him two Emmy nominations.
Mohammed has also maintained a consistent presence in British television. He has appeared in series including Fresh Meat, Stath Lets Flats, Inside No. 9, and Slow Horses. His most recent screen credit is the legal thriller War, created by George Kay. The series stars Dominic West and Sienna Miller and is set in London. Sky has already ordered a second season, which has been filmed but remains unreleased.
In War, Mohammed plays a character named Michael. He describes the role as that of an arrogant man who is married to his job. The character is an outsider and a loner. Mohammed notes that his role expands in the second season. He will also reunite with co-star Celia Imrie for this upcoming installment. The first season features a limited number of scenes for his character, a choice the production team made early in the writing process.
The next major step in Mohammed’s schedule is the West End production The Traitors: Acts of Betrayal. Rehearsals for this show begin in January. Previews are scheduled to start in June. The production will take place at the Gillian Lynne Theatre. It is co-produced by Studio Lambert and Neal Street, the latter run by Pippa Harris and Sam Mendes.
The show consists of a cycle of five plays featuring a cast of twelve actors. John Finnemore wrote the scripts. The first ten minutes of each play are identical, but the subsequent direction depends on which characters are designated as Traitors. This structure allows for different plotlines within the same framework. The production aims to use the momentum from the television franchise to fill seats at the theater.
Mohammed views the reality show as a catalyst for his current opportunities. He stated that the role of hosting the Olivier Awards was secured because of his appearance on The Celebrity Traitors. He is currently involved in the second season of the show, which is airing now. He has filmed an additional episode titled Uncloaked that has not yet aired. He expects the final episodes to contain major plot developments, noting that the narrative improves as the season progresses.
The actor also maintains a long-standing interest in magic, a hobby he pursued professionally from the age of 16. He performed at weddings and corporate events to fund his education. He performed at the 2012 wedding of actor Simon Bird. He continues to identify with the craft, noting that it provides a sense of optimism. This background in performance and illusion informs his approach to his current theatrical and television roles.
