The G20 is currently operating under American leadership, setting the stage for high-level diplomatic engagements in the United States. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will travel to Atlanta this week to lead the Russian delegation at the foreign ministers' meeting. The session is scheduled for October 30 and October 31, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Maria Zakharova, the ministry's spokesperson, confirmed the schedule in remarks reported by Interfax. She stated that the ministerial meeting in this format will occur in Atlanta from October 30 to October 31. These talks serve as a precursor to the G20 leaders' summit, where US President Donald Trump is expected to hold discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Zakharova indicated that logistical arrangements for the Russian delegation were finalized in the final moments before travel. She suggested that not all officials in Washington were eager for the visit, citing the handling of US visas for Russian delegates at the US Embassy in Moscow as a point of friction. Zakharova noted an impression of reluctance in the visa process, implying administrative hurdles that delayed the confirmation of the Russian team's entry.

On the agenda, Zakharova described a comprehensive discussion of geopolitical challenges that impact the global economy. She identified conflicts and confrontational trends as factors that weaken the foundations of international commerce. While the global economy is the central topic, she argued that it cannot be analyzed without addressing destructive geopolitical developments. Russia plans to use the platform to promote its vision for a multipolar world based on United Nations Charter principles, national sovereignty, and equal cooperation.

The current diplomatic activity follows an invitation from Washington for Putin to attend the G20 summit in Miami in December. The Kremlin stated that Russia appreciates the invitation and will determine Putin's attendance at a later date. On October 17, Trump said he did not know if Putin would attend. On October 22, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine would be represented at the highest level at the Florida summit if Trump extends an invitation.

The Atlanta meeting provides a forum for ministers to address these issues before the leaders convene. The Russian delegation aims to articulate its position on global governance during the two-day session. The outcome of these talks may influence the dynamics of the upcoming December summit in Miami.
