Laramie football fans will watch a home playoff game for the first time in 26 years on Friday night.
The fourth-seeded Plainsmen host the fifth-seeded Cheyenne Central Indians at Deti Stadium at 6 p.m. This marks the first time since November 4, 2000, that Laramie has hosted a first-round playoff game. That 2000 contest was a Class 4A state championship against Campbell County. It was also the last occasion the Plainsmen finished a regular season with a winning record.
Laramie concluded the 2026 regular season with a 5-4 record. The team secured its final win on Senior Night with a 34-24 victory over Kelly Walsh. After a scoreless first quarter, the teams combined for 31 points in the second period. Laramie trailed 17-14 at halftime. Isaac Kirsh broke the tie with a 69-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Dax Parvin followed with two touchdown passes to Noah Resee and Dax Beidleman. Parvin finished the game with 227 total offensive yards and four touchdowns.
The Plainsmen are 4-0 in regular-season home games at Deti Stadium. Head coach Jake Chick noted the importance of the home advantage while acknowledging Central is a talented team. Chick pointed out that Central won a road playoff game last year. He said the team must stay focused and prepared for any situation.
Cheyenne Central also finished the regular season 5-4. The Indians lost 28-6 at No. 2 Sheridan in their most recent game. They played their last two contests without Tyrone Richards, the top rusher in Class 4A. Richards averages 150.5 rushing yards per game and has 1,204 yards on the season. He has scored 10 touchdowns. Quarterback Owen Woods ranks No. 5 in Class 4A for passing. He completes 59 percent of his attempts for 75.1 yards per game. Woods has eight touchdown passes and five interceptions. Tyler Finnoff leads the Indian defense, ranking No. 17 in Class 4A with 9.6 defensive points per game.
Laramie trails the all-time series against Central, 72-64, with six ties. The Plainsmen have won the last two home meetings. This is the first playoff game between the two schools since 2009.
