Harris County theaters open nine productions in November, combining holiday traditions with recent hits and new adaptations.
Broadway at the Hobby Center returns to Beetlejuice from Nov. 3 to 8. The musical, based on the 1980s film, features book writers Scott Brown and Anthony King and composer Eddie Perfect. The production explores grief and comedy, with a rating recommended for ages 13 and up due to strong language and mature themes.
Ensemble Theatre presents A Motown Christmas from Nov. 13 to Dec. 20. This holiday revue pairs traditional carols with songs from Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Supremes, and The Jackson 5. The show is a return of a production that played locally a few years ago.
Alley Theatre stages A Christmas Carol from Nov. 15 to Dec. 27. Artistic director Rob Melrose adapted the Charles Dickens novella for a world premiere in 2022. Resident actor David Rainey plays Ebenezer Scrooge for his 10th year. The production features floating houses, puppetry, and costumes designed to create a Victorian wonderland.
Broadway at the Hobby Center hosts Buena Vista Social Club from Nov. 17 to 22. The touring musical, which won five Tony Awards in 2025, tells the story of a woman discovering Cuban music. Justin Peck, a friend of Houston Ballet, won the award for Best Choreography. The show draws inspiration from the Grammy-winning album of the same name.
4th Wall Theatre presents Are the Bennet Girls Ok? from Nov. 20 to Dec. 19. This adaptation of Jane Austen's work focuses on Mrs. Bennet and her five daughters in early 19th century England. The play recently debuted Off-Broadway and will return to New York in early 2027. This Houston production serves as the first major staging of the piece.
Stages debuts The Great American Trailer Park Christmas Musical from Nov. 20 to Dec. 27. Created by Devid Nehls and Betsy Kelsoon, this 2013 sequel to the original trailer park musical features a character with amnesia during the holidays. The show includes original country rock songs such as 12 Days of Amnesia and Christmas Leather Love.
Main Street Theater brings An Irish Carol to the stage from Nov. 21 to Dec. 20. Matthew J. Keenan wrote this contemporary take on the Dickens story, set in a Dublin pub. John Johnson, founder of Classical Theatre Company, directs the Houston premiere. The plot follows a curmudgeon pub owner and his regulars, without the use of ghosts.
A.D. Players performs The Best Christmas Pageant Ever from Nov. 25 to Dec. 23. The comedy centers on the Herdman children, a group of unruly kids who volunteer for a church nativity play. Their participation disrupts rehearsals and prompts adults to reconsider the meaning of the Christmas story.
Houston Ballet presents The Nutcracker Ballet from Nov. 27 to Dec. 28. Co-artistic director Stanton Welch choreographs a version where Clara becomes the hero. The production features a 39-foot Christmas tree, a two-story set, and 75 pounds of falling snow. The full company performs alongside hundreds of young dancers from the Houston Ballet Academy and local auditions.
