Investors and logistics firms in Philadelphia are tracking a new loss of approximately $10,000 in beef that was stolen from a parked tractor-trailer early Thursday morning.

The incident followed a pattern of rapid-fire cargo thefts that have strained local security protocols over the past two weeks. On Tuesday, thieves removed 3,000 pounds of crab legs from a semi in Southwest Philadelphia. Earlier in October, suspects took more than $40,000 worth of beef from a vehicle in Northeast Philadelphia, a week after a similar theft occurred in South Philadelphia in late September.

Police said the Thursday crime occurred around 4 a.m. when individuals cut a padlock on the rear of the truck. The driver, who was sleeping inside the cab, woke to the vehicle shaking. He observed multiple suspects moving near the truck through the window. "I check out the window, and I saw a bunch of guys moving and all, so my first instinct was to stop the truck and move out," the driver said. He noted that the door was open, confirming the intrusion. The group escaped with five pallets of beef.

The driver used a cellphone to capture video of the suspects' getaway vehicles, which included a dark gray Nissan sedan and two SUVs. Police have identified these vehicles as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities are advising trucking companies to upgrade their security measures to reduce future losses. Recommendations include installing hardened steel locks and selecting well-lit, public parking areas for overnight stops. The investigation remains open as detectives review the captured footage and interview witnesses.
