Tyson Brownlee, a 39-year-old resident of Yorktown, Indiana, was booked into the Delaware County Jail on Thursday following an alleged multi-day confinement of a victim.
A probable cause affidavit lists four charges against Brownlee: rape, a level 3 felony; criminal confinement, a level 6 felony; battery; and interference with the reporting of a crime.
The incident began after a birthday party on Sunday. The victim observed Brownlee displaying erratic behavior, including excessive sweating and fluctuating energy levels. These signs led the victim to suspect Brownlee was under the influence of an illegal narcotic. A confrontation followed the party.
By Monday night, Brownlee had begun accusing the victim of strange things, including calling them a witch, while preventing them from leaving the house. Court documents state that Brownlee physically blocked the victim from exiting the bedroom on Wednesday. Whenever the victim attempted to leave, Brownlee struck them. The affidavit reports approximately 10 to 15 physical assaults during this period.
Law enforcement noted extensive bruising on the victim’s body during the investigation, which corroborated the reported beatings. Brownlee also allegedly sexually assaulted the victim while they were confined.
On Thursday, Brownlee left the residence after forgetting his phone at a store. He and the victim drove around Yorktown to locate the device. Upon returning home, the victim found the phone and threw it out the door to draw Brownlee outside. The victim then locked all doors and windows. Brownlee banged on the entry points, trying to re-enter. The victim escaped into their car and left the property.
Online court records do not yet indicate a date for Brownlee’s next court appearance.
