The Baltimore Ravens suffered a significant setback in their Monday night matchup against the Buffalo Bills when both of their primary quarterbacks sustained injuries. The game, played on October 26, 2026, saw the two-time MVP Lamar Jackson return from a high ankle sprain only to be hurt again on the very first offensive snap.

Jackson dropped back to pass and collided with Bills linebacker Greg Rousseau on the follow-through of a throw. The impact resulted in a right thumb injury, causing the quarterback to jog off the field immediately with his hand motionless. Although the team initially listed him as questionable to return, coach Jesse Minter announced after the game that Jackson would require surgery and would be placed on injured reserve.

With Jackson out, backup quarterback Tyler Huntley assumed the role for the remainder of the game. Huntley had started the previous three contests while Jackson was recovering, finishing with a record of one win and two losses. However, his tenure as the starter was cut short midway through the second quarter when he suffered a toe injury.

The injury occurred after Huntley was tackled by Bills defensive end Ed Oliver. He was ruled questionable to return but was officially out of the game at halftime. This development sent emergency third quarterback Joe Fagnano into the lineup for his professional debut.

Fagnano, 25, had never played a snap in the NFL before this game. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent from the University of Connecticut in April. On his first possession, he completed two of four passes for 28 yards. The drive concluded with a missed field goal attempt from 34 yards by punter Tyler Loop.

Over the course of the game, Fagnano completed 10 of 21 passes for 91 yards while throwing one interception. Despite his efforts, the Ravens could not overcome the Bills, who built a lead early in the contest. Buffalo scored on the opening drive to take a 7-0 lead, eventually extending their advantage to 13-7 before the final score reached 36-10.

The loss leaves the Ravens with a 4-3 record on the season. The team now faces a challenging situation in the competitive AFC North with both Jackson and Huntley sidelined for the remainder of the game. The next opportunity for either player to return to the field will come on Thursday night when Baltimore hosts the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The injuries mark a difficult period for the Ravens' offense, as they must now rely on Fagnano or other options while their top two quarterbacks recover. The medical situation for Jackson is particularly concerning given the need for surgery, which typically implies a longer recovery timeline.
