An inquest has determined that Lauren Bennett, the English singer known for her work with LMFAO on the 2011 hit 'Party Rock Anthem,' died by suicide. Assistant coroner Jyoti Gill delivered the verdict at Kent and Medway Coroners’ Court in Maidstone on Friday, Oct. 30, 2026. The hearing established that Bennett, 36, died from hanging.
Court records show Bennett suffered a mental health crisis in January 2026, during which she was sectioned for a few days. Since that incident, she experienced what the coroner described as substantial psychological suffering. Gill noted that Bennett remained in the care of special mental health services until the time of her death. She continued to report distress regarding the effects of prescribed medication and had a meeting with mental health professionals just days before she died.
Bennett was found near her home in Meopham, Kent, on the morning of May 29, 2026. Her husband, Kenny Wormald, told police he was still half asleep when she left the house around 9 a.m. for a walk. After she did not return, Wormald and Bennett's father used a findmyphone feature to locate her in a nearby area of woodland. Bennett's brother, step-brother, and sister-in-law were present for the inquest hearing.
In a statement read by the coroner, Bennett's father, Richard Bennett, said his daughter lived an amazing life. He noted she signed a record deal at age 17 and moved to the United States on her own. Bennett first found success with the group Paradiso Girls, whose 2009 single 'Patron Tequila' charted in the US and Canada. She later joined G.R.L in 2013, a group formed by producer Robin Antin. Bennett toured the US twice and met Wormald there. The couple opened a dance studio in Los Angeles before moving back to the UK with their daughter.
Statements presented in court indicated that Bennett was diagnosed with Fragile X, a genetic condition, before the couple relocated. Her death was initially announced by former G.R.L members, who described her as a beautiful spirit. The group disbanded following the death of bandmate Simone Battle but reunited with new lineups in 2016 and 2020. Bennett was also a member of the Paradiso Girls, which disbanded the year after their 2009 release.
The coroner's finding relies on the medical and legal evidence presented during the proceedings. The inquest concluded that the cause of death was suicide by hanging. Bennett's family members attended the court session where the details of her recent mental health treatment and the circumstances of her disappearance were reviewed.
