Cheshire High football capped a strong bye week by blanking Fairfield Prep 20-0 on Friday night at Alumni Field. The Rams’ defense recorded five takeaways against the Jesuits, a margin that proved decisive in the Sectional Conference matchup.

The game was defined by Cheshire’s ability to stop the ball. The Rams held Fairfield Prep to just 13 yards in the first half and 56 total yards for the contest. Multiple sacks disrupted the rhythm of the visiting offense, which failed to score a point all night.

Ollie Donroe initiated the scoring sequence with a sack of quarterback Drew Kane in the first quarter. Alex Muller recovered the loose ball at midfield, and Tim Reinhard kicked a 20-yard field goal with 3:32 remaining in the period. Cheshire led 3-0 at the break.

The momentum shifted in the second quarter when senior Evan Gonzalez intercepted a pass from Kane in the flat. Gonzalez returned the ball 22 yards for a touchdown, extending the lead to 10-0. On the next drive, Will Wable picked off another Kane pass. Noel Martinez ran for eight yards on the subsequent possession, giving Cheshire a 17-0 lead before halftime.

Reinhard added a 29-yard field goal in the third quarter to make it 20-0. Ryan Plouffe intercepted a pass from Brayden Presiano in the fourth quarter. Aiden Tracy later recovered a fumble on a muffed punt, sealing the shutout.

Reinhard kicked all four of Cheshire’s points. Gonzalez was named Player of the Game for his interception return. The win improves Cheshire’s record to 5-2. Fairfield Prep falls to 3-4.

Cheshire travels to Sheehan for a 6:30 p.m. start next Friday. Fairfield Prep hosts West Haven at 6 p.m. at the same time.
